The National Park Service (NPS) today announced its prediction for the peak bloom dates for the blossoming of the cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C.. Based on bud development and expected temperatures, the NPS predicted that the trees will be at peak bloom March 31 – April 3. The peak bloom is defined as the period when 70 percent of the blossoms on the Yoshino Cherry trees are open. The peak bloom varies from year to year, depending on weather conditions. The 2016 National Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from March 20 – April 17.
